alt Dark Horse Cycles, opened in March 2002, is a bike shop built on the combined 40 years of experience shared between founder George Zubalsky and partner Michael Rave.

George has been in the bike business since 1989 when he opened his original shop Bryan’s Bikes in Blooming Grove, NY and, acting as both owner and head mechanic, oversaw all aspects of its operation until January 2001. After taking a year off to explore other avenues and commune with the bicycling spirit, George realized that his true calling was still as an entrepreneur. Having named the older shop after his son, George promised to let his daughter Sara name the new shop. And so Dark Horse Cycles was born.

Known as “The Bike Guy”, George has always been an earnest believer in the value of local establishments as instrumental to building community ties, and he approaches his job with the motto “Whatever it takes”; that is, whatever it takes to make the customer’s experience a pleasant one and to ensure he or she is made to feel part of the larger cycling fellowship through their patronage at Dark Horse Cycles.

Mike Rave came aboard the Dark Horse team in September 2008, having worked formerly in the cycling departments of Dick’s Sporting Goods and Gander Mountain. His managerial skills and natural good-natured charisma serve him well on the sales floor and he, like George, is fully certified in fit techniques from Specialized Bicycle Components University.

Together George and Mike are dedicated to serving the local cycling community and promoting cycling in all its aspects, not least as an excellent means of exercise and as a serious sport. They bring knowledge, enthusiasm, and professionalism to the business every day and will always view the customer as boss. Contact them at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
